Fiber-cement board is the odd one out in Vietnam's building-materials story. Tiles, quartz, wood and aluminium all publish national output and export figures. Fiber-cement board (FCB) does not — and a good analyst says so rather than inventing a number. Here is what is actually verifiable, and how a buyer should read it.

The data-honesty point first

There is no single, reliable published figure for Vietnam's total FCB production capacity. National statistics bundle "cement" (Portland cement and clinker — a different product) separately from fiber-cement boards and sheets. So if a supplier or report quotes you a neat "Vietnam FCB capacity = X million m²," ask where it came from. The trustworthy signal is at the company and shipment level, not the national level.

Top manufacturers (what shipment data shows)

The ecosystem around it

Vietnam's FCB sector sits on top of a deep cement and building-materials ecosystem. Regional major SCG operates a large cement and materials base in Vietnam (multi-million-tonne clinker and cement capacity, plus a push into low-carbon cement), which underpins the raw-material supply, technology and logistics that fiber-cement producers draw on.

What it means for project buyers

Because "capacity" is opaque, shift your due diligence to what you can verify:

  • Standard & category. Ask which ISO 8336 category the board meets (Category A/B, Class by bending strength), plus density and modulus of rupture (MOR). For roofing sheets, confirm the non-asbestos formulation.
  • A physical sample. For FCB, a real cut sample tells you more than any brochure — check edge integrity, density and finish.
  • Application fit. Cladding, flooring underlay, soffit and roofing are different products with different specs — match the board to the use.
