If you last benchmarked engineered quartz two or three years ago, the supplier map has moved. Vietnam is now the world's third-largest exporter of engineered quartz, behind only India and China — and for buyers shipping into the United States, it has become the default China alternative.

Production capacity

The country's anchor producer, Vicostone, runs seven full production lines on Italian Breton technology, with an annual capacity above 3.5 million m² — roughly 3.0 million m² of slab plus 0.5 million m² of fabricated product. That places Vicostone among the world's three largest engineered-stone manufacturers by output. Beyond the market leader, a base of independent slab plants (concentrated around the northern and southern industrial zones) has expanded quickly to serve US demand.

Top manufacturers

Vicostone is the verified benchmark — publicly listed, Breton-equipped, and the name most US fabricators already know. Around it sits a wider field of 150+ Vietnamese quartz exporters recorded in 2024 shipment data, ranging from large export houses to newer independents. When you evaluate a second-tier plant, judge it on the machinery brand (Breton vs. Chinese presses), the resin system, and third-party test reports — not on catalogue photos.

Export data (recent)

  • ~2,773 quartz shipments left Vietnam between November 2023 and October 2024, a ~72% year-on-year increase.
  • Exports came from 154 Vietnamese exporters to 258 overseas buyers.
  • Top destinations: United States, Australia, Hong Kong — the US dominates.
  • Vicostone books roughly 74% of its revenue from exports, underlining how export-oriented (not domestic) this industry is.

What it means for project buyers

The opportunity is real, but so is one specific risk: US trade remedies. Engineered quartz has been a target of anti-dumping and countervailing duty actions, and Vietnamese-origin material has come under scrutiny as volumes surged. The factory price and freight are the easy part — the duty rate can swing the landed cost more than any other line item. Before you commit, confirm the current US rate for the specific exporter, and get it in writing.

Then specify properly: the resin/quartz ratio, breaking strength, and a current NSF or Greenguard certificate. Two slabs both called "quartz" can be very different products.
